Chicken Soup with Stars at Ars Nova

Have you ever wanted to play piano but then you couldn’t! And then you split off into five versions of yourself and one of them was a wall!

From the windowwwwww… to the me.

That happened to me in the multimedia performance piece I created for Ars Nova’s CAMP comedy residency.

Chicken Soup With Stars is a romp through the many sides of ourselves we call upon to face our insecurities and a reminder that we’re all scared little stars floating in soup so we better show up for ourselves.

I wrote, filmed, edited, composed the music and performed in this multi-hyphenate multi-media, multi-they’d theatrical experience. And I had fun :) You can watch it here (starting around minute 18).

The Reality Show rose through the fear to bring optimism and emotional relief in these troubled times. Current students in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai as well as alums of New York City’s many years of shows built this project from across the globe to welcome this year’s incoming class during these unprecedented times.

Directing from my living room was something I never anticipated, and learning to edit on the fly has been a challenge and a thrill. I can’t wait to see how these skills will continue to shape my art and life as we emerge on the other side of our current isolation.

Cast members (ONE OF WHOM IS I!) have been announced for LEMMINGS: 21st CENTURY, a reboot of National Lampoon’s off broadway hit of the 70s which launched the careers of artists such as Christopher Guest, Jim Belushi and Chevy Chase.

It is an honor that the family of artists I’ve been working with for a decade have been recognized by comedy icon National Lampoon. I can’t wait to see where this piece of work leads us!

Ellen Stewart Centennial

An incredible honor to once again sing with La MaMa ETC, this time at their Ellen Stewart Centennial Celebration honoring Philip Glass. Singing Elizabeth Swados’ composition Change, Alicia Olatuja, Starr Busby, Jo Lampert and I embodied the words of Ellen:

“I think every artist who has been blessed by God has an obligation to society to share his art, to communicate to the entire world…Society takes it for granted what you’re doing. Don’t let them forget you. No self doubt.”

Radio City Music Hall had happened

REALITY SHOW SEASON 15 saw itself at RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL this year. There were platforms, there were lights under those platforms, and there were bagpipes. Dang!

This marks my 15th summer working on this project and being the creative director of this international venture is the artistic and spiritual anchor of my adult life. Unending gratitude to the hundreds of people who make this project happen every year and to the New York, Abu Dhabi and Shanghai campuses of New York University. Here’s to another fifteen :)

Upright Citizens Brigade

Musical sketch comedy show SHIZ has been installed as a featured show at Upright Citizens Brigade! We’ll be screlt sketching the second Monday of every month in Hell’s Kitchen with different special guests (TONY WINNERS YALL) and you’re gonna be all like hey that’s funny and THEN you’re gonna say keep singing it’s good when y’all do that too.

La MaMa ETC rang in their 57th season with a gala to celebrate the work of Lisa Kron and raise funds for their new building project. A small choir sang a few numbers by La MaMa alum Elizabeth Swados in between courses. It is always an honor to represent this institution!

This year’s Reality Show: NYU has wrapped with huge successes in all three countries!

It is always a pleasure and inspiration to helm this international endeavor I inherited from Elizabeth Swados. This year was full of incredible revelations, performing in the round at Barclays Center, returning to our first home at East China Normal University in Shanghai, and filling the Red Theater in Abu Dhabi with a roaring standing ovation.

Another summer, another forty artists changing the world.

WHAT A SHIZSHOW

I’m gonna serve you Evan Hansen, Jean Val Jean, Kenickie, Mark Cohen and Townsperson #3 all in the span of an hour.

SHIZ is a musical sketch show helmed by Matt Gehring and Shaina Taub throwing a wrench into iconic musical theater numbers throughout American history and we’re all gonna laugh about it.

My longtime artistic home La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club received the Regional Theatre TONY Award!

I joined an ensemble on the stage of Radio City Music Hall to sing behind artistic director Mia Yoo’s acceptance speech during the televised ceremony.

I also ate purple carrots backstage with Tina Fey and Andrew Lloyd Webber while watching Michelle Williams coo to Claire Danes’ ocelot printed pregnant belly. My favorite moment was witnessing an incredibly touching congratulatory hug between legends John Leguizamo and Chita Rivera.

Other Coast?!

Here's what's gonna happen: I'm gonna go to Los Angeles and play three characters in an incredible play by Joshua Harmon directed by Stephen Brackett with superstars Melanie Field, Vella Lovell, Keilly McQuail, John Garet Stoker, Concetta Tomei and Will von Vogt.

Nancy Kerrigan plays Preston Martin in Toe Pick at Dixon Place

Nancy Kerrigan has taken on the role of Preston Martin in TOE PICK, a script entirely transcribed from 90s interviews and commentary by Zackary Grady. We play at Dixon Place on Fridays and Saturdays at downtown jewel Dixon Place, and looking at this poster makes you wanna see it bad.
